India ranks 19 in political empowerment but goes beyond 100 in other subindex such as educational attainment, economic participation and opportunity and health & survival. This good rank in political empowerment may be attributed to the Panchayati Raj. India has reserved seats (33%) for women in Panchayati Raj institutions.
